12th July 2014 Official Opening of the New Wing

 

The Indo-Chinese Elderly Hostel has completed a major expansion this year. The expansion consists of a new reception area and a new wing, increasing the number of rooms in the hostel to 88. To celebrate, the Hostel held an official opening ceremony on the 12th July.

The ceremony was hosted by Mrs. Phoebe Alexander of the Chinese Language Education Council of NSW, and attended by special guests and members of the community. The following guests of honour gave speeches:

Mr. Henry Tang, the 10th Chairman of the Hostel’s Board of Management Committee gave a welcome speech to start off the event.

The Hon. Andrew Rohan, State Member for Smithfield, representing the Premier of NSW, The Hon. Mike Baird

The Hon. Nick Lalich, State Member for Cabramatta, respresenting the NSW Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. John Robertson

Mr. Douglas C.T. Shen, Director General of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Sydney

Dr. Peter Wong, AM gave a vote of thanks speech

Festivities included a lion dance with 10 lions, ribbon cutting and roast pig cutting ceremonies, and the unveiling of a commemorative wall plaque. As the completion of the new wing also coincided with the Hostel’s 10 year anniversary,long service awards were also presented to staff for 10 years of dedicated service. These awards were presented by Mr. Henry Tang, Dr. Peter Wong, and Mr. Bounkong Kerr, the newly elected 11th Chairman of the Board of Management Committee.

After the official ceremony, guests were invited to a tour of the new facilities and a luncheon.
